  • Structural Engineering Leader

  • LHB has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineering Leader to work within our Industrial Group.

    In this role, you will perform activities related to the design, operation, and maintenance in the pulp and paper industry, taconite mining industry, power generation, pipeline, and similar industrial applications. You will work with a team of engineers, project managers, and drafters to ensure the safe design, construction and maintenance of our clients’ sites. You will be interacting with LHB staff, clients, contractors, government officials and general public.

     

    To be successful and succeed in this position, you will need to have exceptional written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to provide strong leadership and mentorship to staff within LHB’s Industrial group.

    Position Summary:

    The responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:

    • Ability to evaluate, plan, direct, manage, communicate, engage and oversee projects with varying degrees of complexity
    • Coach and manage team members to ensure their career development goals are being met
    • Provide direction to the Structural design team to ensure projects are being completed in a timely and safe manner
    • Effectively communicate project goals, risks and requirements with clients.
    • Lead the process of responding to requests for proposals and qualifications for professional engineering services from clients
    • Identify and develop potential clients and projects
    • Maintain relationships with existing clients
    • Provide direction to ensure effective management of the construction administrative process on typical design projects

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college
    • 10 years’ experience in mining, pulp and paper, bulk handling, pipeline, forest products, and/or other heavy industry
    • Professional Engineer licensure
    • Demonstrated working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and structural analysis software such as RISA and/ or STAAD
    • Upon receipt of an offer of employment, applicants must be able to successfully complete pre-employment onboarding requirements that will include a criminal/civil background check and drug screen, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience using AutoCAD
    • Demonstrated design experience including steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures as well as specialized analysis and inspections
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and problem-solving skills
    • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
    • Must be willing to travel intermittently
    • Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and work outside in all weather conditions
