• Senior Structural Engineer

  • LHB has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer to work within our Industrial Group.

    In this role, you will perform activities related to the design, operation, and maintenance in the pulp and paper industry, taconite mining industry, power generation, pipeline, and similar industrial applications. You will work in a team of engineers, project managers, and drafters to ensure the safe design, construction and maintenance of our clients’ sites. You will be interacting with LHB staff, clients, contractors, government officials and general public.


    To be successful and succeed in this position, you will need to have exceptional written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to provide strong leadership and mentoring to staff within LHB’s Industrial group.

    Position Summary:

    The responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:

    • Work closely with current and prospective customers to create new business opportunities
    • Produce designs, drawings and specifications that our clients will use to execute their projects
    • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices, and functions in a lead engineering role for segments of projects including preparation of required design plans, applications, and reports
    • Maintain high satisfaction ratings from clients through superior service, quality workmanship, timely production and quick project turnaround and thorough understanding of client requirements
    • Provide onsite engineering support, including regular site visits
    • Provide day-to-day guidance, motivation and development of subordinates
    • Prepare forecasts of workload for assigned staff

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college
    • 6 years’ experience in mining, pulp and paper, bulk handling, pipeline, forest products, and/or other heavy industry
    • Professional Engineer licensure
    • Demonstrated working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and structural analysis software such as RISA and/ or STAAD
    • Upon receipt of an offer of employment, applicants must be able to successfully complete pre-employment onboarding requirements that will include a criminal/civil background check and drug screen, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

     Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience using AutoCAD
    • Design experience includes steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures as well as specialized analysis and inspections
    • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, time management and problem-solving skills
    • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
    • Must be willing to travel intermittently
    • Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and work outside in all weather conditions
    • Experience with project management, proposal development, and marketing
    • Proven ability to manager and mentor staff
